Hello to All,

Wow, what a summer we have had at Twigs.  Redesigning a website, Opening a 4th location and participating in the First Upstate Women's show are a few of the things that were on our Agenda! AS far as the new website goes,  I am especially excited about this blog location on the website. My plan is to use it as a means to share some "Behind the Scenes" details from various events and locations that Twigs meets on a weekly basis.  From the Cliff's Chapel to Reserve Clubhouse, from terraced back yards to mammoth ballrooms, we have the opportunity to create the most amazing designs.  I am excited to have the venue to share these moments with you.  Now for the first entry...............

Earlier in the summer, we installed a wedding up at the Cherokee Valley Clubhouse. The wedding ceremony was on semi-covered terrace that overlooked a lush green golf course.  Our job was to frame the entrance for the guests and than echo that design to frame the bride and groom during the ceremony.  As you can see from the pictures, we had a cooling breeze blowing all day which added a bit of billow to the tulle draping.  Here are a few steps leading to the finished design:

Using chenille stems, I attached soaked oasis cages to the top face of each of the four columns.

Underneath all of the floral framework is a loose swagging of ivory tulle.  This is draped and attached as the first element of the design.  I always use ivory tulle outside, as to me white tulle seems to bright and synthetic.

After the tulle, I added my greenery of silal, aspidistra, ruscus and leather leaf. Complete all four before proceeding to the next step.  I find it is easier to reproduce designs if I do them in stages rather that completing one first and then moving to the second.  The designs tend to take on a life of their own that way.  Not seen in the pictures are a the hands of a wonderful assistant who keeps the designer from going up and down the steps too many times!!!!

The finishing touch are the flowers.  Kept simple here, we just used white flowers featuring roses, hydrangea and lilies.

These flowers were added about two hours before the wedding and were heavily sprayed with a topical preservative to keep them fresh and crisp thru the wedding.  The summer heat and sunshine will do damage quite quickly, even with the
